Kingdom's Non-oil commodities Exports and Imports Methodology

 

 

 

Description:

(Monthly, quarterly, and annual) reports that clarify the movements of non-oil commodity exports and imports during these periods and compared to the same period from last year. It contains summarized tables, total exports and imports by section and groups of states, imports by material use and nature, imports by means of transport and custom point, and charts about trade exchange between the Kingdom and GCC countries.

  
Methodology:

After the General Authority for Statistics receives the monthly Import data, it passes through several stages of treatment as follows:

First Stage: 
Entering data on the system of foreign trade statistics, to obtain the preliminary review of commodities, countries, and customs centers to ensure consistency and comprehensiveness of data.

Second Stage:
The implementation of detailed processing programs for customs data, through the application of auditing rules and automatic correction to extract notes. These notes are either processed directly through expert statisticians in the department, or investigated from its official resource. This stage continues until the monthly data is completely audited and corrected.  

Stage Three:
Automatic monthly data collection on the level of commodities and countries, in accordance to programs dedicated to this purpose. After that, a final and comprehensive review is conducted on these data.   

Stage four: 
The monthly data is uploaded, and the tables and charts that have been prepared in accordance with international classification of goods and countries is extracted. Then the data passes through levels of data revisions, quarterly and yearly until it is ready for preparing and publishing for the statistics’ bulletin.

The mechanism of preparing periodical Reports:

These reports are prepared after the completion of the correction and auditing of the data of each period during the year. As the data arrives monthly from its sources as an initial data, the following steps are done:

•    The data is sent to computers to ensure its comprehensiveness.
•    The data is uploaded on foreign trade special correction programs to extract errors and notes.
•    Some errors are reviewed and corrected by the department staff automatically through monitors.
•    Some errors and notes are sent to the Saudi Customs for correction. 
•    In mid- February each year, final non-oil  import and export data arrives from Saudi Customs to prepare the annual reports.
•    Final review of these data is done to make sure that there is no errors or notes.
•    These reports are published and printed in the form of (Hard copy/ CDs/ on the website of the General Authority for Statistics www.stats.gov.sa)

•    Each report (monthly/quarterly/annual)  is done according to the following stages:

•    Ensuring inclusiveness.
•    Uploading initial data.
•    Auditing and correction.
•    Final data uploading.
•    The preparation of tables and charts.
•    Data publishing.

Beneficiary entities:

•    Many entities, authorities, and local government institutions benefit from these reports, such as, (the Council of Economic and Development Affairs,  the Council of Political and Security Affairs, Ministry of Economy and Planning, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Ministry of Culture and Information, Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, Chamber of Commerce......,etc).
•    International and regional organizations and authorities, such as, (GCC Statistical Center, Arab League , ESCWA,.....,etc).
•    Private sector and individuals.

How to Benefit from the Periodic Reports of the Kingdom's Non-oil Commodity Imports and Exports:

o    It is utilized by the Saudi Exports Development Authority, to Know the main exported local goods by countries in a specific period.
o    It is utilized by the Chamber of Commerce in commercial meetings.
o    Identifying key exported and imported commodities.
o    Identifying key exporting and importing countries.
o    It is utilized by the Ministry of commerce and Investment to identify the extent of trade relations growth between the Kingdom and other countries during a specific period.
o    It is used by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and commercial attaches to identify the movement of exports and imports with each country during the period.

The Bulletin of Import's data is a statistical measure for:

•    Providing data, tables, and indicators for Saudi commodity Imports to be used in studies and research.
•    Trade policy making to protect and encourage local commodities and manufacturing.
•    Building important economic indicators for national accounts’ components and the payment balance.
