Survey

 

The purpose of this survey is to provide health-related data on the Saudi population , such as,  health status, health determinants (e.g., family history of certain diseases, access to health care, and environment), and other relevant topics. The information presented in this survey should help citizens, healthcare policy-makers, healthcare researchers, and other interested parties in their efforts to improve the health status of the Saudi population, enhance coverage of health care services, and provide other non-health services based on the population’s needs.

 

Survey’s objectives

 

  • Establish a reliable database to provide local, regional, and international organizations with relevant data about the health indicators of the Saudi population, such as, health status, risk factors for chronic diseases, and access to healthcare.

 

  • Provide decision-makers and health planners  with valuable statistics to enable them to benchmark the Saudi health indicators against other highly ranked health indicators, and improve the competitiveness of Saudi Arabia in the health field in line with vision 2030.

 

  • Enable health planners and researchers to identify the most vulnerable segments of the population, high healthcare services utilizers, and those who need expanded coverage and enhanced access to healthcare services.

Health Status:

Topics related to the assessing health status and nutritional indicators.

 

Health determinants:

Topics related to tobacco consumption, physical activity, and social support.

 

Health Care:

Health care expenses, medical consultations, unmet needs for health care, home care, Medicine Use, and family planning.

 

Health expenditure:

Including all medical products, devices and equipment, outpatient services, and inpatient care services.

Survey target sample?

All individuals aged 15 years and over in Saudi Arabia.

 

What is meant by pain or discomfort?

It is a painful and uncomfortable feeling in general.

 

How is the amount of fruits measured?

A serving (amount) is one medium-sized fruit (such as oranges, apples, and bananas), a handful of smaller fruits, or three tablespoons of fresh fruit salad.

 

How is the amount of vegetables measured?

A serving (amount) is four tablespoons of leafy greens (salad) or three tablespoons of cooked vegetables.

 

What is meant by passive smoking?

Passive smoking means breathing in other people's tobacco smoke.

 

What is meant by smoked tobacco?

 It includes cigarettes, rolling tobacco, bidis, cigars, pipes, hookahs, and e-cigarettes.

 

What is meant by smokeless tobacco?

Smokeless tobacco products include dry snuff, moist snuff, plug/twist, loose-leaf chewing tobacco, snus, and dissolvable products.

 

What is the difference between primary and secondary health coverage?

Primary health coverage is used primarily when a visit to a health facility is required.

Additional coverage is used as a secondary (non-primary) visit to a health facility.

 

What is meant by home care services?

Including all health and non-health services that support people who experience difficulties in daily life:

  • Health services (including services provided by a health practitioner such as a nurse or doctor).

  • Non-health services (including services provided by non-health practitioners such as domestic workers).

 

What is meant by (intense) physical activity?

An activity that causes a significant increase in the number of breathing times or the heart rate, such as: (lifting heavy objects, or cutting wood).

 

What is meant by (moderate) physical activity?

An activity that causes a slight increase in the breathing rate or heartbeat, such as brisk walking, carrying light objects, cleaning, and washing clothes.

 

What does the household income include?

It is the total annual cash and in-kind revenues collected from the incomes of all household members (regardless of age or kind), which allows the household to spend on different aspects of spending, saving or investing.

Data privacy, safety, and security :

The General Authority for Statistics places the confidentiality of the data collected and processed at the top of the priority list, in accordance with the kingdom’s Law of National Statistics, issued by Royal Decree No.: (23) dated 7/12/1379 AH, as well as in accordance with international standards. GASTAT implements surveys and censuses, conducts studies and researches, analyzes and documents data and information for development purposes and strategic planning.

 

Purpose of privacy notice :

The Privacy Notice was prepared to understand how the personal data collected are handled and to understand the purpose of the data collection and processing. It is necessary for you to be aware of how GASTAT uses your personal data, and your rights regarding the processing of your personal data, in accordance with the relevant regulations and legislation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

Responsibility :

The data provider must constantly review the “Privacy Notice” to ensure if there are any updates to it, bearing in mind that GASTAT is not obligated and required to announce any updates made to this notice. Providing you with the data signifies your acceptance of its accuracy and your knowledge of it.

 

What are the collected personal data?

Various types of personal data and information is collected, which cover all aspects of life in the Kingdom: (demographic, social, economic, environmental, and cultural), including but not limited to:

Full name, age/date of birth, sex, address, contact information (e.g.: email address and phone numbers), ID number, marital status, current job information, previous job information, information about dependents/spouse//family.

 

How are the personal data collected?

Personal data is collected and obtained "directly or indirectly", through the use of various methods, and may include:

  •        Direct methods of obtaining personal data:
  1. Field visit to the household or establishment by GASTAT employees or representatives.
  2. A phone call by GASTAT employees through the Statistical phone # (920020018).
  3. Self-enumeration for individuals and establishments through GASTAT website.
  • Indirect methods of obtaining personal data:
  1. Cookies data, Cookies collect data on how you use GASTAT website, including the date and time of your visit, and the type of the Internet browser you use.

 

Why does GASTAT collect and use personal data?

Through collecting data, GASTAT aims to produce official statistics that serve the public interest. This means that any personal data collected, whether about the same person or on behalf of another person, will be used for statistical purposes and to produce official statistics.

 

Does GASTAT share personal data?

No, as GASTAT is committed to maintaining the privacy of personal data for all residents of the Kingdom and does not publish it. GASTAT follows the data sharing controls approved by the regulatory entities as well. It is also committed to applying strict and firm measures for data confidentiality and non-disclosure.
