Four Agreements  Reinforce Statistics' Collaborations on the First Day

Under the auspices of the Minister of Economy and Planning, His Excellency Eng. Adel Mohammad Fakieh, and after the transformation of the Central Department of Statistics to an independent Authority, implementing the Supreme Decree of approval, the first day of working at the General Authority for Statics will start on Wednesday 1st of Jumada Al-Awal 1437A.H (10 February, 2016). The Authority invited a number of its partners from the private and public sector in addition to Media and public opinion leaders to attend the launch event in Riyadh.
On the other hand, Dr. Fahad Sulaiman Altekhaifi, the Authority Chairman, asserted that the next coming phase of the statistical sector will be based on the collaboration led by the Authority as the backbone of this sector. This partnership and collaboration includes all statistical departments and units of the private and government entities. Dr. Altekhaifi revealed about a clear roadmap with clear goals to establish partnerships with several private, public and media entities to support and promote statistical work. Within the activities of the first day, and under the auspices of H.E. the Minister of Economy and Planning, four agreements will be signed. These agreements aim to: develop the methods of statistics and data recording, support the statistical techniques, launch specialized statistical media, and develop communications with all entities that will benefit from products and services of statistics. Regarding the most important next phase for the statistical sector, Dr. Altekhaifi asserted that the transformation, in fact, lies in the development of the supporting mechanisms of development decisions made by all ministries, authorities and government entities that provide services to citizens. In addition, it includes the development of the mechanisms used in responding to data users' needs and predicting their requirements. Moreover, the most important transformation will be on developing the techniques used in presenting data, statistics and information upon which development plans will be built on. Altekhaifi also asserted that the transformation does not mean the change in statistical standards worked with, as the Authority will continue to apply known international standards signed by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia in all international agreements with relevant organizations.
Furthermore, according to the Regulation approved by the Cabinet, the General Authority for Statistics will be the official statistics reference in Saudi Arabia. It will be responsible of preparing statistical work' national strategy in Saudi Arabia in coordination with relevant entities. In addition, it will also be responsible for following up, implementing and periodically updating these strategies.  Additionally, it will be the authority supervising the formation of a comprehensive system of national statistical Databases regarding various statistical fields from Data sources.
