Statistical work procedures

One of the most important success factors in the statistical work journey is organizing the statistical work according to scientific and practical rules and procedures. Its importance emerged from the need for producing high quality and accurate statistics that rely on the most recent international standards and practices in the field of statistics including all its areas (economic, demographic, social, environmental, and others). The general authority for statistics has determines its vision to be the most distinct and innovative statistical reference that supports economic and social development in Saudi Arabia. As for the authority mission, it was represented in providing updated statistical products and services that have added value and are accurate, comprehensive, and reliable according to the best international standards and practices. The authority’s mission is not only restricted to this but also to be a leading entity in developing the statistical sector inorder to support decision making. Producing high-quality statistics, which is one of the most important values of the authority, requires easiness and harmony in the statistical work. Therefore, a guide was prepared and applied for the purpose of organizing the statistical work procedures in the authority and the statistical sector. This guide describes a group of procedures and tasks that are required in statistical production operations. These procedures help many statistical departments in producing high-quality and accurate statistics. Regarding the most essential objectives of the guide, they include: enhancing the statistical operations used in producing and unifying statistical works in the statistical sector, accomplishing the statistical products projects accurately, and founding a vocational reference for all workers in the statistical sector. The statistical work go through nine stages:

  1. Range: understanding statistical needs and confirming them, in addition to determining the possible solutions.
  2. Design: designing all upcoming steps in the statistical process.
  3. Organization: preparing the statistical work procedures and testing them
  4. Collection: collecting data and checking their correctness.
  5. Classification: processing data to shift them from being initial data to statistical data.
  6. Revision: checking the outputs correctness and explaining them.
  7. Publishing: preparing the products to be ready for publishing.
  8. Evaluation: evaluating all stages of the statistical work comprehensively. 
  9. Management: managing all steps of the statistical work constantly.
