Introduction

Culture statistics indicators are one of the most important indicators required at the international, regional, and local levels. The culture sector is considered a leading sector, and thus, the General Authority for Statistics has started collecting data on it from its source annually in order to support decision makers, policymakers, researchers, and those interested in up-to-date and comprehensive statistics related to culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Culture statistics indicators rely on the data from administrative records of government and relevant entities. The quality of data is evaluated regularly and continuously. Additionally, data sources and relevant values provided to the Authority are verified according to adopted international definitions, classifications, and standards. 

 

Methodology used in the preparation of cultural statistics indicators

Culture statistics indicators rely on the data of administrative records from their primary sources from governmental and related entities, which provide the General Authority for Statistics with this data, and thus, the culture statistics indicators are issued based on them.

Data collection is carried out through official communications with the entities that own the data, where data is transported through different modes of transport and e-mail.

The data sources used are record data owned by government authorities. The quality of data is evaluated regularly and continuously. Additionally, data sources and relevant values provided to the Authority are verified. The compatibility of data with previous products is also examined according to adopted international definitions, classifications, and standards.

 

Publication

After GaStat announced the culture statistics indicators' release date on its official website at the beginning of the calendar year, the Authority prepares the required media materials to announce the release on all media outlets, as well as its various social media platforms. The announcement is made on the determined publication date. The culture statistics indicators are first published on the official website in various templates, such as open data in Excel format, to guarantee its circulation and accessibility to all clients and parties interested in culture indicators. The culture indicators are also included in the website’s statistics library.
