A clarification about the rates of spinsterhood in Saudi Arabia

According to what was published by GaStat about the marriage and spinsterhood statistics, the General Authority for Statistics would like to clarify some of the data and information that are mentioned in the demographic survey which is the source of these statistics. GaStat also would like to clarify the difference between ( spinsterhood) statistic and the statistic of unmarried Saudi women (15 years and above).

First, GaStat  indicates that the term of ( spinster) refers statistically to woman who was past the usual or legal age for marrying, this age differs from country to country, it may also differ from time to time in the same country. Depending on the demographic survey that was conducted during the third quarter of 1437 H and included all Saudi regions, it has been shown that 97.2% of Saudi females have got married in the age of (32 or less). Therefore, we can refer to a woman as a spinster in Saudi Arabia when she is older than (32).  The following are the most important results of this issue:

  • The percentage of Saudi females to all Saudi population is : 49.01%
  • Number of unmarried Saudi females ( 15 years and above) in Saudi Arabia is : (2.261.946) females.
  • The percentage of unmarried Saudi females ( 15 years and above) in Saudi Arabia is :34.12%.
  • The percentage of Saudi females who got married in the age of (32 or less) is: 97.2%
  • The percentage of Saudi females who got married in the age of (32 or above) is: 2.8%
  • The percentage of spinsterhood among Saudi females is : 10.07% ( which means there is 1 spinster in every 10 Saudi females who are 15 and above)
  • Number of Saudi spinsters: 227.860 Saudi females who are 32 and never got married.
